Why do we even pray?
I’m a big believer in God’s will and that God has a plan. But then that said, why do we even pray if God already has a plan? Do we pray to change God’s mind? Who are we to try to change God’s mind?
Inspiration from non-Catholics
I’ve found that the faith in some non-Catholic Christians is undeniably stronger than in some Catholics. While they get a LOT wrong, I can’t help but notice they get a lot right in some ways too. Being fearless, remembering to pray about EVERYTHING, etc. I’m wondering if anyone follows any non-Catholic Christians or is inspired by their relationship with Jesus or anything like that. Do we think it’s ok to be inspired by other Christians as long as we’re adhering to Church teaching? Good question for @legion I suppose, but I’m curious about others’ takes on this!
Thoughts on guitars & mediocre cantors at Holy Mass
I just came back from Mass (NO) at a church I’d never been to before. To my surprise - but I guess it shouldn’t surprise me - there was practically a whole stage to the right of the altar where there was a lady playing acoustic guitar, another lady who only harmonized, a man playing electric guitar, a “front man” wearing sunglasses inside (idk… maybe he needs them for some reason 🤷🏼♀️), and another lady at the organ. All these people were middle aged and up. All of them sang at one point or another. The best way I can describe it is - it just wasn’t it. At all. They played and sang decently enough, the overused lyrics might’ve been sincere, but these kinds of “ensembles” just completely take away and distract from the solemnity and reverence of the Mass, therefore any level of talent or sincerity can’t really justify the cheap songs and guitar IMO. Nothing against them personally. Just wondering - WHY?? Thoughts? 🤔💭
If you’re a convert/revert, has the entertainment you consume changed?
For me, certain movies and music for example don’t appeal to me nearly as much when Christ is at the center of my life, but I’m still quite imperfect (entertain myself with less-than-virtuous content). I’m curious what anyone else’s experience is like in this regard! Answer the poll and lmk why you chose that option!

Proof that the traditions we have is from the Apostles?
Dear friends; a non-denominational friend of mine asked if there’s any evidence that the traditions we hold to even come from the apostles themselves. As a new Catholic, and coming from an evangelical reformed background, and having friends in many Protestant communities, where can I find resources for him to learn about it all. Thank you and God Bless.

St.Michael’s Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

When does "cultural appreciation" become heresy?
Imagine if you went on a winter trip to japan, and just for fun, you dress in a kimono, visit a shrine and draw a fortune. It says "good luck", you smile and show it to your friends and your instagram story. And you forget about it by the next hour. Have you betrayed jesus, or were you just appreciating the national tradition of the country you were visiting?
Do we mean it when we say “I’ll pray for you”?
“I’ll keep you in my prayers.” Maybe I’m just a really shitty Catholic, but I almost try not to say that too casually because I just know that I’m going to forget to pray for them. However I do observe that most people say it quite liberally. If you are one of those people, be honest- do you actually remember to pray for them?
Fun fact: Our App follows the liturgical colours.

A prayer for this community
Lord, you gathered fishermen, tax collectors, and sinners and made them apostles. Gather us here — Catholics from every country and background — and make something of it. May every discussion here build up the Body of Christ rather than divide it. Amen. Please add your own intentions below.
Peter's primacy in the early Church — the patristic evidence
Matthew 16:18-19 is the starting point, but the patristic evidence is what clinches it for me. Clement of Rome (96 AD) intervening in Corinth's affairs without being asked — uniquely, among all the sees. Ignatius of Antioch addressing the Roman church as presiding "over the whole assembly of love." Irenaeus appealing to Rome as the standard of orthodoxy. This is not later Romanist projection onto neutral texts. The evidence for Roman primacy is earlier and more substantial than most Protestants realise. What sources do you lean on?
Daily prayer: what does yours actually look like?
Not the ideal — the real. Do you pray the Liturgy of the Hours, a morning offering, the Rosary, Scripture? What do you skip when life gets busy? I'm asking because honest accounts of actual prayer lives are more useful than aspirational ones. Show me your messy prayer life.
How do you answer "why does God allow innocent suffering"?
Not the philosophical version (I can refer you to the threads in Philosophy) but the pastoral version — when someone who has just lost a child, or been diagnosed with something terminal, looks at you and asks this. Every true apologist has faced this moment. The logic of theodicy is not the right tool here. What is? I have learned more from getting this wrong than from any book.
The Catechism at 30 years — how well do Catholics know it?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church was promulgated in 1992. It is 904 pages, available free online, and most Catholics have never opened it. How did you first encounter it? Is it a living document in your parish, or a shelf decoration? What is the single most surprising thing you found in it?
Responding to the abuse crisis objection charitably but honestly
This is the hardest apologetics question because it is not primarily philosophical — it is moral and personal. "How can you remain in an institution that covered up the abuse of children?" deserves an honest answer, not a deflection. My answer has three parts: (1) the crimes and cover-ups were real and inexcusable; (2) institutional failure does not refute the truth claims; (3) leaving does not undo the harm or protect future children — staying and demanding reform does. Is this the right frame? What would you add or change?
The Eucharist in the early Church — the case every Catholic should know
Before any argument about transubstantiation, establish the historical baseline: Ignatius of Antioch (c.107 AD) calls the Eucharist "the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ." Justin Martyr (c.155 AD) describes it as "not common bread and common drink" but the flesh and blood of the incarnate Jesus. John 6:51-58 uses the Greek "trogo" — to chew, gnaw — not merely "eat." The Real Presence is not a medieval invention. It is the universal teaching of the undivided Church. What other sources do you use?
An honest question: do you actually feel close to God?
Not as a trap or a gotcha — as a genuine question between Catholics. Spiritual dryness is real and the saints attest to it. Mother Teresa's letters reveal decades of darkness. How do you hold onto faith in the seasons when God feels absent? What has actually helped?
Sola Scriptura is self-refuting — walking through the argument
The doctrine that Scripture alone is the rule of faith is nowhere taught in Scripture. This is the classic objection. But the stronger version is that Sola Scriptura cannot even get started: the canon of Scripture was determined by the Church, by a process of Tradition and episcopal authority, and ratified at councils that Protestants reject in principle but depend on in practice. Luther's canon was not self-interpreting — he kept or rejected books based on his prior theology. The doctrine destroys the epistemological foundation it claims to stand on.
What saint has had the biggest impact on your life?
Not the one you were named after, not the obvious answer — the saint whose life or writings actually changed something in you. Mine is St. John of the Cross. Dark Night of the Soul is the most honest piece of spiritual writing I have ever read. Who is yours and why?
